You guys know by now that 1- I like weird things, and 2- When I like things, I like them A LOT. Well, the fact that I like things that most people don't like means that I often have no one to talk to about the things I like (okay, I keep saying "like" when I really mean "LOVE!"). I mean, my dad does like a lot of the same shows I do, but he usually only half pays attention to them and doesn't read nearly as much into them as I do. My mom has never liked any kind of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror, etc, at all. She usually just refused to even watch those sorts of things. But I think I'm starting to bring her around to my side. I convinced her to watch Supernatural a while back, and she liked it so much that she has now watched the whole thing (seasons 1-8) with me, twice. I had been trying for a while to get her to give Firefly a try and she finally agreed, and guess what? She likes it!

And Another Thing....
To continuing the discussion from last night, another thing that I don't really agree with about our society's current idea about feminism is this whole "body acceptance" movement. I mean, the idea behind it is great and all, but I think we're going about it in entirely the wrong way.
It seems to me that telling women to accept their bodies just as they are is sort of the opposite of empowering. Let me explain. The problem with our ideas about our bodies (at least in my humble opinion) is not that we want to change them; changing our bodies requires will-power, hard work, dedication, commitment, all of these are good things. The problem is that we want to change our bodies into what society tells us they should be. I see absolutely no problem with people wanting to be the best they can in every way. We should not be telling women to accept their bodies as they are, we should be telling them to make their bodies what they want them to be. I think there is a great sense of empowerment that comes from watching your body change and become better due to your hard work. That is something that we should be cultivating, not discouraging.
I, personally, don't believe that I will ever stop trying to improve my body; I'm just not the type of person who is ever really completely satisfied with anything. That in no way means that I don't appreciate the progress I have made though. I feel good about all the work that I have done, and all the benefits I have gained from it. This is not because I look the way society tells me I should (because I don't look the way society tells me I should) but because I look more and more the way I want to everyday. I feel that, instead of telling each other to accept our bodies the way they are, we should be telling each other to decide who we want to be, and do whatever it takes to be that. Myself, I'm sort of going for the "warrior woman" look.

That's Something, I Guess
Sorry this post is so late, but hey, at least it's here right? Anyway, I just thought I would let you all know that I have, sort of, made a tiny bit of progress. I actually, finally, finished that job I was doing in Fairmont. You know, the one with the painting and the unbearably slow-going border peeling? Yeah, that one. It's done. I should be getting a check for it sometime in the next week. This will hopefully mean that I can buy some materials for all the projects I've been thinking about starting and maybe, maybe, get some stuff made and posted for sale. Also, my dad and I finally fired some of the clay pieces I've been working on, so wish me luck with that. Personally, I'll be pretty fucking thrilled if they don't come out as piles of dust, since neither of us really knew what we were doing and that kiln has been sitting around unused for about a century.
"You took that end and you...well you took it. And that's....well I guess that's somethin."

Everything Is Broken
Sorry there was no post yesterday. Everything was (still kind of is) broken and I was just WAY too pissed off to write anything other than incoherent growling noises, which I wouldn't even be sure how to spell. First, I couldn't get my car out of the driveway, because of all the snow. Then, I tried to do laundry and the washing machine was frozen so that it filled with water but wouldn't drain, leaving my clothes soaking in their own dirty water. And finally, the one that really did it for me, my workout DVD broke. Like won't work at all, won't even register that it's in the disk drive, broke. I'm actually a little less pissed about it now that I know it's the DVD itself that is broken and not my computer, which is what I assumed it was originally. Of course I didn't realize this until late yesterday evening which means I didn't work out at all yesterday. I'm going to be aggravated about that for about a week or so. Now that I do know it's the DVD I just have to use one of my old workouts, which is nice in a way because I had been doing the same one everyday for at least a year and a half. Now I'm just paranoid that the one I'm doing now won't be as effective. You know, because I'm a crazy person.

One Year
Well, it has officially been one year since I started this blog and, as promised, here is my one last secret that I have yet to reveal to all of you. It probably won't seem like much of a secret to most of you, especially considering the multitude of exceptionally personal things I have already discussed here, but it's a pretty big one for me. Here it is; despite the way I act and the immense effort I go to in order to hide it, in a lot of ways, I am a big stereotypical girl and it bugs the shit out of me!
I try to act like I only care about really important things and the only thing that matters to me is trying to make the world a better place.
I try to act like I only care about really important things and the only thing that matters to me is trying to make the world a better place.
But sometimes I'm like "I just want somebody to hold my fucking hand!"
Here, for your reading pleasure, is a list of all the ways in which I am just an annoyingly average girl.
1- Sometimes I just really want someone to tell me I'm pretty.
2- A part of me still believes in the whole "fairy tale love" bullshit.
3- I actually do that stupid things that girls do in movies where they dance around their houses when they're home alone.
I do, at least, wear pants when I do it though.
4- Good romantic scenes make me really happy and really sad at the same time.
I couldn't find a picture of the part where he picks her up and spins her around, but holy fuck do I wish someone would be that happy to see me!
5- I'm constantly comparing myself to other women and taking inventory of our respective good and bad attributes.
I will never be able to look at her and feel good about myself.
6- There are certain excessively cheesy love songs that I just can't help but love, no matter how shameful they may be.
When this song comes on the radio I find myself incapable of turning it off, or of not singing along.
7- Here's the one that I really REALLY don't want to admit to. Sometimes I actually do cry. Fuck do I hate it! And I never do it when anyone else is around to see, but it does happen. Usually, it's not even for any particular reason either. It's just sort of a "life in general sort of sucks" thing.
8- I actually think it would be a lot of fun to go dancing, like in a club (gasp!). I would probably give it a try were it not for the fact that I am fairly certain I would just make an ass of myself.
9- I totally understand every part of this post
Every part.
10- Part of me has always wanted, and probably will always want, to be a famous actress/singer/something.
11- Sometimes I find myself looking at these stupid things and thinking "You know, that probably would be pretty nice."
I chose this particular one because I think the second picture makes it infinitely funnier.
12- I have quite a fondness for sexy underwear.
I especially like this place because their stuff is sexy, badass, and affordable.
13- As much as I try not to, I get extremely bothered by negative comments, especially ones concerning my appearance.
I also have a tendency not to forget these comments for, well, ever.
14- Whenever I happen to be near a mirror, I find that I can't help but check to make sure there's nothing for anyone to say anything negative about. Like obsessively. Usually I find lots of things.
Too many things.
15- I really wish I would get hit on sometimes. I mean by someone who isn't three times my age.
Could somebody look at me like that^ please.
So there you go, guys. My deepest, darkest secret is that I am, in fact, a girl.

The Real Me
Well everyone, I did it. I cut my hair off. For a few minutes I kind of thought "Oh my god! What have I done?" and then "Holy shit! Look how small my head is!" but, after a while, I started to feel like ME again. I look more like a guy, but I feel more like myself. You wouldn't think it would be possible for someone to just not be cut out for having hair, but apparently I'm not. Whatever, girl hair is overrated anyway.
Also, we finally got my punching bag filled up yesterday. So far I am really enjoying it.

Right Next to the People Who Talk at the Theater
For the last three or four days, every time I check my email, my inbox has been absolutely packed full of the most obnoxious spam; namely, ads for porn and various methods of penis enlargement. Well guess what spammers? I don't have a fucking penis, nor do I have any interest in seeing "giant bouncing boobies" or finding out whether Brittney or Jamie Lynn is the bigger slut. Thanks anyway though! Fuckers. Seriously, there is a place for people who crowd my, already over-crowded, inbox with this type of shit. It's called.........

Out of Gas
You know that feeling in the air right before it storms really hard? I love that feeling! It was quite strong yesterday while I was on my way to work, which was nice because it sort of distracted me from the fact that I was on my way to work. As I pulled into the parking lot, it was just beginning to rain but it felt like a huge storm could erupt at any second. I actually thought "Hey, maybe the power will go out and I can go home!" Mistake! Guess what. The power did go out. Guess what else. That no longer means that we get to go home. Now it apparently means that we have to ring people out with a fucking calculator. Luckily, it came back on pretty quickly and I only actually ended up having to do one sale with the calculator. Still, by the time we got the registers working again, there was a huge line of people waiting to check out. Plus, we could only take cash, so several people just abandoned their stuff and vowed to come back and get it later. One or two actually did. I will never wish for the power to go out again!

Worth 1000 Words
My sister has been doing photography lately. She has some really great stuff, you should check her out. Anyway, soon (maybe sometime this weekend) I am going to get her to take some new pictures for me. You see, I use the same profile picture for everything and it's around two years old. So I'm thinking I will do a halfway normal looking one for Facebook, but I want something ridiculous, and nerdy, and over-the-top for this blog. I'm considering going with the River Tam pose. Of course, it won't be nearly as cool without the deadly blades.
Any suggestions?

How Did........Where Did......What?
Alright so for some reason, that is beyond my comprehension, I have this odd tendency to get other people's hair stuck to me. Like, not just the hair of people I have been in close contact with, but strangers' hair. I literally walk past people in a store and then hours later find their hair stuck on my clothes, on a regular basis. It's like I'm overly statically charged or something. Anyway, I've actually gotten somewhat used to this vaguely disturbing phenomenon. Well today it escalated quite drastically. I had just gotten out of the shower, where you would think any stray hairs would have been washed away, and I found a long hair stuck to my leg. It was at least 4 or 5 times too long to belong to me. Then I picked it off and held it up to the light and noticed that it was, get this, blue! Like TARDIS blue. How in the fuck did a long, blue hair get stuck to my leg while I was in the shower? I don't even know anyone with blue hair.

Humans Say the Dumbest Things
One of the dumbest things that I hear people say on a regular basis is this "My parents did that and I turned out alright." Yesterday my mom, my sister and I were talking about this. First of all, has anyone else noticed that most of the people who say this do not, in fact, seem like they turned out alright at all? I, at least, have heard this mostly from people who seem to have quite a lot of highly undesirable qualities. Second, is it just me or should the goal of parenting be a little more than children that are "alright"? Shouldn't we be aiming for children who are happy, healthy, well-adjusted, productive, etc? I don't think any of those things are implied by the term "alright".

YAAAAY! I guess.....
Well everyone, I took my test yesterday. I passed the physical part and apparently it's going to be a while before we get the results from the written part. Then there will still be the psychological test and the background check. Good times. Anyway, both tests went alright for the most part.
There was supposed to be one other female applying for the job but she didn't show up, so it was me and thirty guys. Awkward. They split us into three groups of ten (my group ended up with eleven, because there was some crazy girl there who thought she could compete with thirty guys, and who turned out to be right HAH!). I ended up in the last group which is apparently where all the losers ended up, because two people out of my group couldn't do push-ups and one couldn't do sit-ups. Then we had to run one and a half miles in fifteen minutes. This was the part I was worried about. I knew I could do push-ups and sit-ups, but I hadn't practiced running in a long time (mistake!). As I suspected, I still suck at running. I made it though, and I came in fourth or fifth out of what was left of my group. I say fourth or fifth because I lost track of one of the other guys, I think he was behind me though. It was fairly miserable, but I made it through fine. Then, as soon as I was done, my lungs said "Okay so you don't need us anymore, right?" then they collapsed. I seriously need to work on that.
Then we had to come back later and do the written test. It was weird. We had to read this little booklet for 25 minutes and try to remember as much of it as we could. Then the test asked us questions from the booklet. There were also all of these questions about what steps you should take, and in what order, in a given situation. Then there were several about distance and direction and which route would be quickest and how far you would be from your starting point and whatever. Those made me a bit nervous because I am not good with direction at all, like at all. Overall I feel pretty okay about it though. I guess we'll find out in a few weeks.

Sort of an Androgynous Gunslinging Space Vampire?
A lot of people take style cues from magazines, fashion designers or their favorite celebrities; I get mine from my favorite sci fi/ fantasy characters. Right now I'm going for sort of a Zoe meets Mitchell look (with a few vegan/animal rights accessories of course).
This could have something to do with why I'm single.
